GPF problems
Question: When I try to run Corel WordPerfect for Windows 6.0a, the program gets to the very first screen and then gives me a General Protection Fault warning me that there is a problem in SHWinB20.DLL. It then bumps me back to Program Manager.
I have a Logitech three-button mouse that I use with a 486 DX-33MHx with 16 Megs of RAM. I have DOS 6.2 and Windows 3.1.
If I comment out the line that loads wbuttons.exe in the win.ini file, everything runs fine. This is driving me crazy and any help would be much appreciated. — C.L.
Answer: The problem is with the Logitech mouse driver.
“The company is now shipping MouseWARE version 6.4 that corrects the GPF problem,” said Corel spokesperson Carrie Bendzsa.
You can get the update for free from Logitech Technical Support if you have Mouseware 6.3. Their phone number is 1-800-231-7717.
Bendzsa also noted that Dexxa mouse users with version 6.3 of the Logitech mouse software will also encounter the same problems.
