Satellite radio services plan to merge
Earlier this year, XM and Sirius, two satellite radio competitors, announced they’re thinking of merging. If they do, the new company would become one mega-satellite radio network.
Of course, until the United States Federal Communications Commission (FCC) makes a ruling (expected at the end of 2007), the two companies will continue to operate independently with separate receivers and content.
XM features 170 channels including Oprah and boasts more that 7.5 million subscribers.
Sirius lists 198 channels including content from stars such as Martha Stewart and Howard Stern. It has more than 5 million subscribers.
